Harrison Goldberg and Dave Jordan are set release the new album from Pacific Woods. “Finisterre” can be previewed by tuning in to KTDE—100.5 FM, The Tide Community Radio—on Saturday, September 19, at 5:00pm.
Recorded in Gualala, on the western edge of the continent, “Finisterre” (Latin for ‘end of the Earth’) evokes the beauty and serenity of our coast, between the Pacific Ocean and the redwood forest, hence the band’s name, “Pacific Woods.”
Speaking of their band’s origin and creative process, Goldberg says: “Several years ago, Dave and I began a series of weekly experimental workshops that over time evolved into a unique dialogue between saxophone and electric bass, a musical language that was captured on our first recording, ‘Pool of Mirrors.’ Most of the tracks on our albums are first-take improvisations recorded live.”
Describing their new album, Jordan says, “Harrison’s lyrical melodies are the aesthetic heart of ‘Finisterre.’ His decades of playing jazz inform his melodies, but this isn’t quite a jazz album. His playing is quieter, more spacious and peaceful than his fans may expect from his jazz concerts here on the coast. My ostinato bass lines provide a pulse and rhythmic texture, but leave room for expressive and rhythmic freedom. Often, one of us will break the groove and the other will follow, leading to unexpected interludes and changes in direction.”

On Saturday, September 19, at 5:00pm, KTDE “The Tide” Community Radio 100.5 FM will host the broadcast premiere of Pacific Woods new album “Finisterre.”
Leading up to this event, on Saturday, September 12 at 5:00pm, The Tide’s Erin and John will highlight the music of Pacific Woods on their weekly Celtic Coasting radio show playing selections from the duo’s first two albums, “Pool of Mirrors“ and “Sanctuary.” On Wednesday, September 16 at 6:00pm, the duo’s first two albums will also be featured on The Tides Mendonoma Music show with a repeat of the broadcast premiere of “Finisterre” to air on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:00pm.
